The Azalea is a spring blooming plant with evergreen foliage. This Azalea has an upright growth habit and is the best choice for a high light area. The Formosa has beautiful magenta deep colored flowers that grow profusely during the spring. It can get up to 6-8 feet in height and does best on acidic soils. Plant in acid soil in filtered sunlight or light shade, although plants tolerate full sun in cool-summer areas. Use soil rich in organic matter, which retains water and drains quickly. Never prune after mid-summer because those branches produce the next season's flowers.

Burgundy Carousel® Barberry, Berberis thunbergii 'Bailtwo', is an attractive shrub that displays burgundy-purple foliage and can be used as a color accent in the landscape. Makes a good hedge or barrier plant because of the thorns. Prefers moist, but well-drained soils. The burgundy-purple leaves add contrast to the landscape; bright red berries in fall attract birds; needs sun.

The Adams Needle bush, Yucca filamentosa, has stiff evergreen rosettes and are part of the scene in hot dry Central and North American scrublands. Yuccas are hardier than they appear, and only fail in cold exposed inland positions, where they are better grown as container plants. Otherwise they are handsome architectural foliage plants for dry, sunny borders. This variety has a white edge.
